Want to get your household errands done? Go to work!

Lincolnshire, Illinois -  December 5, 2006
It’s not unusual for most of us to run around town in our spare time to take care of dry cleaning, banking, grocery shopping and to drop off charitable donations. Yet, what if you could take care of these household errands while you were at work? That is exactly the innovative approach that office products company Quill Corporation takes for their employees, making these services available onsite at the company’s Lincolnshire, Illinois, headquarters'.

Taking a cue from their own slogan -- “Fast and Simple” -- Quill offers its employees a fast and simple way to maximize their time. For example, employees can drop off and pick up their dry cleaning twice a week at Quill’s corporate headquarters. The company also provides opportunities for associates to buy gifts and purchase groceries during Market Days (profits go to a different charity each month) through programs onsite at the headquarters' office.

Looking for a health club? Need a new checking account? Quill’s “Vendor Corner” allows local health and fitness clubs to visit and share their amenities and programs with employees. Local banks also pay Quill a visit, sharing information about new lending programs or investment opportunities. Even Tupperware representatives have been scheduled to stop by to provide storage tips and let associates know how to order.

Taking the program a step further, as part of its commitment to local charities, Quill invites not-for-profit organizations and schools to visit the Lincolnshire headquarters. This allows them an opportunity to identify potential volunteers and mentors, as well as raise donations. Goodwill has been a recent visitor, placing a truck at the campus entrance so that employees could conveniently drop off donations. Together We Cope, a member of the Greater Chicago Food Depository and a Tinley Park-based organization that helps families in transitional circumstances obtain basic needs, also spent two days onsite providing information about the organization and its resale shop, and collected clothing and food donations from associates.

“We recognize that our customers work hard -- but so do our employees,” said Larry Morse, president of Quill Corporation, adding, “By extending our commitment to these associates by providing conveniences and time-saving services, we allow them to reduce the time pressures they face daily and ease some of their outside burdens.”
If the stress gets to be too much, Quill has a walking trail. It circumnavigates the company’s office campus so that employees can exercise on the job. More “fast and simple” ideas are in the works in this innovative company that focuses on it customers AND its employees.
