LINCOLNSHIRE, IL, May 10, 2006
As part of its growing commitment to ensure a healthier workforce, Quill Corporation, Lincolnshire, has launched a comprehensive new health and fitness initiative. The new program includes a recently unveiled one-mile walking path that encircles the Quill grounds, as well as new healthy meal options served at the company’s cafeteria.
“We believe that when employees are healthier, they have a better attitude, feel better and have more energy. Quill has always provided opportunities for employees to improve their health, but we felt that during our 50th anniversary year, it was time to expand the resources we provide to our employees to eat healthier and increase their physical well-being,” said Larry Morse, President of Quill, who regularly exercises to stay fit.
Morse points to studies that show that any employee can begin an on-site fitness program at work without compromising their time or energy. Along those lines, WebMD advises viewing everything someone does as an opportunity to get aerobic exercise. "Make exercise more of a habit than a chore,” suggests WebMD. “Take the stairs instead of the escalator and walk rather than drive. Plan an active outing instead of going to a movie. One can even make cleaning the house an aerobic exercise."
The new Quill walking track provides a scenic path through Quill’s campus-like headquarters site, replete with flowers and trees that create a pleasant environment. Quill encourages employees to incorporate healthy habits into their existing schedules, blocking out exercise time as if it were an important office meeting. Early morning or lunchtime walks are especially encouraged. Studies how that setting aside even as little as five percent of your day for exercise can increase productivity and bring healthy dividends.
Quill has always offered a salad bar for employees, but is now adding more heart-healthy luncheon options.
In anticipation of a possible flu outbreak, Quill has stepped up its application of bacterial soap dispensers throughout Quill, and is expanding the scope of the office sanitary supplies it offers to its customers both online and via catalog.
“We think that part of being a good employer is to help our employees stay healthier. It not only makes good health sense, but it also makes good business sense by helping to reduce health insurance claims and sick days,” adds Morse.
Quill, celebrating its 50th anniversary, is known for providing award-winning customer service. It received the 2004 "Circle of Excellence" Platinum Award from BizRate.com, and also was named 2003 “iMerchant of the Year” by Catalog Age. To ensure fast order delivery, Quill has 11 regional distribution centers throughout the U.S. and serves customers through its catalog, direct sales organization, 1-800-789-1331, and online at Quill.com. Located in Lincolnshire, IL, Quill Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Staples, Inc.
