Lincolnshire, March 13, 2006
Quill Corporation, the Lincolnshire-based office products distribution giant, received special recognition from the State of Illinois in honor of its 50th anniversary. To recognize this business milestone, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich has designated June 23, 2006, as Quill Recognition Day, marking the anniversary of the date Quill launched its business in 1956.
On that day, with a $2,000 loan from his father-in-law, Jack Miller founded Quill Corporation in the back room of his father’s chicken coop in Chicago. Today, under the leadership of Quill president Larry Morse, Quill is the nation’s largest business-to-business direct marketer of office supplies, which includes furniture and technology products. Quill produces more than 106,768,000 printed pieces in a year and has access to more than 200,000 products. In keeping with the rise of the Internet for e-commerce, currently more than 60 percent of all Quill orders are placed online.
“We are honored that the State of Illinois has recognized our contribution to the efficiency of the nation’s offices and to the office support staff that has helped make the U.S. a leader in productivity. We are particularly pleased to play a role in supporting the communities in which we do business, and will continue to contribute to the growth of Lincolnshire and its surrounding areas,” said Larry Morse.
Quill moved into its Lincolnshire location in 1980 with a 165,000 square foot corporate headquarters on 33 acres. A few years later it was expanded to 375,000 square feet, and now has more than 900 employees.
Quill provides award-winning customer service, receiving the 2004 "Circle of Excellence" Platinum Award by BizRate.com, and was named 2003 iMerchant of the Year by Catalog Age. Quill has 11 regional distribution centers throughout the U.S. to ensure fast shipping and serves customers through its catalog, direct sales organization, 1-800 number, and online at Quill.com.
